Is my recording uploaded anywhere?
No. The audio is held in this browser tab as you record and is written to your device only when you press download. Nothing is sent to us, and closing the tab discards the recording entirely.
What file format do I get?
Whatever your browser records natively: Chrome, Firefox and Edge produce a WebM file with Opus audio, and Safari produces an MP4. Both are ordinary audio files that any transcription tool, including this one, reads without conversion.
How long can I record for?
There is no limit built into the tool, but the recording is held in memory, so a very long take on a phone or an older machine can run the tab out of room. For anything over about an hour, record in parts or use a dedicated recorder app.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in a modern mobile browser. Be aware that phones suspend background tabs aggressively, so keep the screen on and the tab in front while recording. For a long or important recording, your phone's own voice memo app is the safer choice.
Why is my microphone blocked?
Browsers only allow microphone access on secure pages, and only after you grant permission. If you dismissed the prompt, open the padlock menu in the address bar, set the microphone to allow, and reload the page.
