Privacy Policy

In effect 26 July 2026. Plain language, because a privacy policy you can't read isn't one.

Who we are

FastScribe is a transcription tool run by Jackson Rhodes. We are the data controller for the information described here. To reach us about your data, email support@thefastscribe.com. FastScribe is based in and operated from the United States, and is intended for users in the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, you are sending your data to be processed here.

What we collect

  • Your email address and a hashed password, when you make an account.
  • The audio or video you upload, and the transcript we make from it.
  • The original filename, file size, and duration of what you upload.
  • A one-way fingerprint of your IP address, for anonymous uploads, to apply the free limit. We do not keep the address itself.
  • Your Stripe customer id and plan, if you subscribe to Pro.
  • Referral codes and who referred whom, if you use a referral link.
  • Basic usage analytics: the pages you visit and a cookie id.

Your card details never reach us. Payments run entirely through Stripe's own checkout; we only ever see that a payment succeeded.

Where your audio is processed

Your file is uploaded straight to storage, pulled down by a computer we own and run in the United States, converted to text by transcription software running on that machine with no outbound network call, and held only in temporary space that is wiped when the job ends. No third-party AI or transcription service ever receives your audio.

How long we keep it

  • Audio and video: deleted the moment your transcript is ready, normally within seconds and always within an hour.
  • Transcripts: kept so you can return to them. Free accounts see their last 7 days in their account; Pro keeps them until you remove them. We do not automatically delete transcript text: you can delete any transcript, or your whole account and all its data, from your account page at any time, or email us to do it for you.
  • Account data: kept until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Anonymous IP fingerprints: the one-way hash, not the address, kept to enforce the one-free-file limit.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of service providers to run FastScribe. Each gets only what it needs:

A note on encryption

Uploads travel over an encrypted connection and are stored encrypted at rest by our providers. Transcript text is not encrypted in a way that hides it from us: to run the service, we and our database provider can read it. We would rather say that plainly than imply more.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the data we hold, correct it, delete it, or send you a copy, and you can object to how we use it. If you are in California, you can ask us not to share your information. Email support@thefastscribe.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to see which pages people use. These set cookies and send the pages you visit to those providers. We deliberately do not run analytics on your transcript pages, so a transcript link is never sent to them. You can block these cookies in your browser without losing any feature of the service.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top. Questions go to the people who run FastScribe.
