Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded to check it?

No. Your browser reads the length and size from the file on your own machine. Nothing is sent anywhere, and only the file metadata is read rather than the audio itself.

Why does it say the length could not be read?

Some containers do not expose a duration to the browser until the whole file is buffered, and a few are not decodable in the browser at all. That does not mean the file is broken, and we read the real length ourselves during transcription.

What are the actual limits?

Without an account, ten minutes and fifty megabytes. A free account raises that to thirty minutes and one hundred megabytes. Pro handles five hours and two gigabytes in one file.

My file is too long. What can I do?

Trim the setup and goodbyes off the ends, which often removes more than you expect, or split the recording at a natural break. If it is the size rather than the length, exporting the audio from a video shrinks it dramatically.
