Brazilian and European Portuguese

The two big branches of Portuguese sound noticeably different, and our transcription engine was trained on both. Brazilian Portuguese, with its more open vowels, and European Portuguese, with its clipped and reduced sounds, each transcribe accurately without you flagging which one the audio is.

FastScribe detects the language automatically and writes what it hears, so a speaker from Sao Paulo and one from Lisbon each come through in their own spelling and vocabulary. Nasal sounds and the accented characters Portuguese relies on are preserved.

Original Portuguese with timing

The transcript stays in Portuguese, keeping the til over nasal vowels and the acute and circumflex accents. It is not translated, so if you later want English or another language you would run the Portuguese text through a separate translation tool of your choice.

Every segment is timestamped, which makes Portuguese video easy to caption. Export SRT or VTT to subtitle a Brazilian interview or a European Portuguese lecture, TXT for a plain transcript, and DOCX on Pro for a formatted document.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle both Brazilian and European Portuguese?

Yes. Our transcription engine was trained on both branches, so audio from Brazil and from Portugal transcribes accurately, each in its own spelling and vocabulary, without you selecting a variety.

Are Portuguese accents and the til preserved?

They are. The transcript keeps the til over nasal vowels along with the acute and circumflex accents, so words like coracao and informacao appear correctly rather than stripped down.

Can I get Portuguese subtitles for a video?

Yes. Export SRT or VTT and the timestamps align Portuguese captions with your video, whether the speaker uses Brazilian or European Portuguese, keeping accented characters intact throughout.
